NATS – Lowest figures since records began!

by Gordon on Tuesday 25th February, 2014

NATS is a global air navigation provider and manages the world’s busiest section of airspace as well as the busiest single and dual runway airports in Europe and the Middle East. Its systems and people manage over 6,000 flights a day through UK airspace – over 2 million a year – safely and efficiently.

NATS halved the level of delays in UK airspace in January 2014, compared to the same month the previous year. Perhaps more impressively, it is the lowest January figures since records began in the mid-1990s.

In January, NATS handled a total of 152,930 flights, an increase of 3.1% compared to the same period last year. NATS-attributable delays for the month totaled 1,068 minutes, a decline of nearly 50% when compared to January 2013.  NATS said 99.9% of flights experienced no delay as a result of NATS-attributable regulations.
NATS managing director of operations Martin Rolfe stated:

‘Delay figures have been at an all-time low for this time of year, which is great news for our airport and airline customers and their passengers. January overall has been a positive month for NATS which, despite the bad weather, has seen traffic rise alongside growth in the majority of market segments and an increase in instrument flight rules traffic at the majority of UK airports where we operate air traffic control.’ (atwonline.com, 19 February 2014)
