When It comes to stainless steel, numerous variations are available on the market. Every alloy of stainless steel has its own unique properties. There is a specific variation of steel for many things like a basket or tray. Before explaining the stainless steel 1.4835, 253MA, we are going to discuss its categories.

Categories of Stainless Steel

As we explained earlier, there are many types alloys but all of them can be categorized into three categories.

Martensitic Stainless Steel

The reason for explaining this category is because it is the least common stainless-steel alloy. When it comes to the resistance, it is lower than other categories of alloys. However, this alloy is harder and that is why it is commonly used where high tensile strength and impact resistance is required. Moreover, there is a polymer coating on these alloys for protection.

Ferritic Stainless Steel

It is a more common type of alloy compare to martensitic Stainless steel. It is often used where steel is magnetic. These types of alloys are cheaper and work well in a cold environment.

Austenitic Stainless Steel

It is the commonly used alloy and has a high ratio of chromium content compared to the other two alloys. It is more resistant to corrosion and also heat-resistant steel. Moreover, they are not usually magnetic but can be after cold working. The MA253 alloy that we are going to discuss is an austenitic stainless steel alloy.

Introduction of 253MA

It is a heat resistant stainless steel which has good corrosion-resistant. It is developed for optimum performance at higher temperatures. Due to is high oxidation resistance, 253MA can work in the temperature range of 1562 – 2012-degree Fahrenheit.

Features

When it comes to the features, it has high corrosion resistance, high tensile and yield strength at high temperatures. This alloy does not only include nickel and chromium but also few rare earth metals which are the reason for its high antioxidant capacity. Moreover, the manufacturers have added nitrogen in this alloy to make it austenitic. It does have low chromium and nickel but it has the same high-temperature properties as nickel alloys. It is amazing S30815 steel that has excellent oxidation resistance up to 1093 degree Celsius. After that temperature, its resistance starts decreasing.

One of the main things that make gives it anti-oxidation properties is rare earth and silicon elements. The rare earth elements diffuse the silicon and make an oxide layer on this alloy to slow down the oxidation process. One of the main rare earth metals used in this alloy is lanthanum which helps in slowing down the oxidation.

Applications

Following are the applications of stainless steel 1.4835:

  • Moreover, heat treatment furnace, Rolling mill, and its accessories.
